The Cans find have the best record in the NBA after the All Star break, something that both NBA champions have done the last two years (Celtics 41-8, 07-08 and Lakers 42-10, 08-09). With a 9-1 record in the last 10, they are the best team in the East. The Lakers are the best in the West. With a 42-14 record overall and 7-3 in the last 10, the Lakers hold a four game lead for the number one spot in the West. Winning home court for the East will be really hard given the competition on the West. The West still has 11 of 16 teams fighting for the playoffs while, on the East, looks like New York, Philadelphia and Detroit could fight for 2 of the last 3 spots. Well, it is still a little early, so let’s see how the next 10-15 games play out.
Kansas keeps the number one spot. Kentucky, Purdue, Syracuse and Villanova conclude the top 5. With March coming closer and closer, the question will be not who the top of the cream is, but who is at the bottom. Who is in the bubble? Who can make it to the big dance come selection Sunday? Here is a list of teams to watch for: Oklahoma State, Florida, Cincinnati, Mississippi State, Wichita State, Notre Dame, Charlotte, Saint Mary's, Virginia, Mississippi, San Diego State and Marquette.
