CFB Power Rankings (Last Updated: 09/14)
    1. Alabama (2-0): This was a sucker's bet to take Fresno and the points. Saban used a 41-10 win to play some depth, particularly at quarterback as Tua Tagovailoa made his debut. Let's not read too much into it now but somewhere ahead there is one hell of a quarterback battle looming.
    2. Oklahoma (2-0): I've never seen a staff so blissfully stunned after a win. Well, everyone at Oklahoma except Lincoln Riley. OU's new coach was calm and steady. Oklahoma announced itself into the national championship race with a win for the ages in Columbus.
    3. Southern California (2-0): Stanford had won the last three meetings and seven of the last nine before the Trojans reasserted themselves as kings of the Pac-12. Y'all can calm down about Sam Darnold. He now has 14 touchdown passes in his last four games after four scores against the Cardinal.
    4. Clemson (2-0): The Tigers look like they should be playing in the SEC. Their 11 sacks are the most by a Power Five team. The defense harassed Jarrett Stidham and Auburn all night sending a message that a return to the playoff isn't a longshot.
    5. Penn State (2-0): Yes, please, we want more saltiness from James Franklin. After beating Pittsburgh, Penn State's coach crowed, "I know last year beating us for them was like the Super Bowl. This was just like beating Akron for us."

NFL Power Rankings (Last Updated: 09/14)
    1. New England Patriots: 1. Pittsburgh Steelers (1-0): Preseason ranking: No. 4, Rookie linebacker T.J. Watt became the third player to record two sacks and an interception in his NFL debut since sacks became official in 1982. Watt is the defensive playmaker the Steelers have been craving for years and could make the defense more impactful than Pittsburgh's offense.
    2. Green Bay Packers (1-0): Preseason ranking: No. 5, The Packers held the Seahawks without a touchdown in Week 1 as the defense swarmed quarterback Russell Wilson. This could be a sign of big things to come for a team that ranked 21st in defensive scoring last season. Any defensive improvement turns the Packers into a serious threat.
    3. Kansas City Chiefs (1-0): Preseason ranking: No. 8, Alex Smith threw four touchdown passes; Kareem Hunt set a league record with 246 yards from scrimmage in his NFL debut; and Tyreek Hill scored another 60-yard TD. If the offense keeps it up, the Chiefs are the team to beat in the AFC. FPI currently agrees, giving them a league-best 90 percent chance of making the playoffs.
    4. New England Patriots (0-1): Preseason ranking: No. 1, The Patriots allowed the most yards (537) and points (42) by a Bill Belichick-coached team in Thursday's loss to the Chiefs. The Patriots are still the team to beat, but if the defense can't stop Alex Smith, how will it stop Drew Brees in Week 2? The Patriots' first 0-2 start since 2001 seems like a distinct possibility now.
    5. Dallas Cowboys (1-0): Preseason ranking: No. 6, According to Elias Sports Bureau research, Dak Prescott's four interceptions are fewest in a quarterback's first 17 starts since the AFL-NFL merger. Prescott's ball control is crucial to the Cowboys' success, and unless he starts throwing picks, they could be destined for a deep postseason run in 2017.

MLB Power Rankings (Last Updated: 09/14)
    1. Indians (90-56): Now go get your city a World Series title, guys.
    2. Nationals (88-57): The Nats have a realistic shot at placing three starters (Max Scherzer, Gio Gonzalez and Stephen Strasburg) in the top five of NL Cy Young voting.
    3. Dodgers (94-52): Normally we'd say something like, "if they win the World Series, this will all be forgotten." Only we don't think it will. This awful stretch just makes the story even more memorable if they do get things right and pull it off.
    4. Astros (87-58): Losing their hold on the top AL seed seems like a pretty big deal. The likely postseason opponent becomes the Red Sox instead of possibly someone like the Twins (if they beat the Yankees). There's time for the Astros to get the top spot back, though.
    5. Red Sox (82-63): The AL East title should be elementary now. The Red Sox hold a four-game lead and don't play a team with a winning record until the final series (and it's against the Astros, who will be playing for nothing).

With a lots of games on the board on a daily basis, if there is a time that you can use some solid advice and some strong selections, NOW IS THAT TIME.
